Our client, a future-facing and newly formed Reinsurance Broker with a focus on being the stand out emerging reinsurance broker in the world who is hugely entrepreneurial, ambitious and forward thinking is looking for several client facing Actuaries to work as the central Actuarial Team within the group to be involved reserving and technical pricing across the reinsurance business

They have a wide variety of products that benefit from actuarial analysis covering Marine & Energy, Property & Casualty, and specialty lines.

Purpose of the Role:

The role is to lead the Actuarial department and contribute to the client’s strategy. Candidates will be ensuring the department’s output effectively and compliantly meet the needs of their internal processes and face the demands of changing market conditions.

You will be ensuring the department is adequately skilled to deliver quality analysis for senior management across a variety of product lines, as well as providing insight into their wider pricing capability in other teams. The role involves maximising value from the department outputs, which includes developing and nurturing key internal and external relationships. You will also be directly managing staff and will be expected to help them to develop to their full potential by facilitating their development, as well as coaching to train their own team.

Key role accountabilities: –

  1. Develop and set the mechanisms to execute the strategy for actuarial support on pricing and reserving activities across to support profitable growth across the group
  2. Continue to lead the expansion of technical pricing across the group. This includes setting up process to monitor if pricing models remain fit for purpose and ensuring the governance framework is effective
  3. Ensure that reserving analysis is maintained and developed to support the provision of management information for insurer partners on the performance of the accounts they manage
  4. Set up frameworks for the monitoring of aggregations of risk (for example flooding and terrorism exposures) and other reinsurance reporting metrics
  5. Set up the provision of data science to support reinsurance excellence within the company.
  6. Coach managers and set up frameworks to help drive high standards of work, professionalism, and good continual personal development of team members across the department in pricing, reserving and data science roles
  7. Apply matrix management techniques to help support and if needed drive the provision of tenders for capacity in a timely manner that adds value.
  8. Organise the provision of due diligence support for relevant transactions
  9. Ensure data quality and governance is suitable, which includes improving the availability and standardisation of data.
  10. Keeping up to date with market trends in the relevant actuarial and data science processes, transforming these into actions to continually improve the actuarial team
  11. Build strong relationships that help they client to sell the services of the actuarial team and facilitate them adding value to the group.
  12. Constantly develop knowledge and skills by undertaking training in line with agreed development plan including mandatory training (in-house and for any professional qualifications) and keep up-to-date with technical, legal and market developments via use of various learning materials
  13. Embrace change and deliver new solutions and innovation within a team environment by considering wider options
  14. To conduct the business of the Company always in a courteous and efficient manner
  15. To undertake any other task as may reasonably be required by the Company

 Knowledge Required

  • A fully qualified actuary (with a minimum of seven years’ experience) or equivalent actuarial knowledge and experience is required
  • A good knowledge of actuarial reserving is required, with previous experience of working on reserving for at least three years
  • Knowledge in technical pricing is required, with previous experience of working on pricing (or technically equivalent projects) would be highly desirable
  • Good background knowledge of general (Re)insurance and experience in commercial pricing would be highly desirable
  • Knowledge of change management is required

Skills Required 

  • Proven people and process management is required at least at Head of level, or equivalent
  • Able to lead the implementation of new actuarial pricing and reserving, as well as data science techniques
  • Reviewing pricing and reserving models’ outputs and overall suitability
  • Track record of delivering change and innovation
  • Expert analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritise their own work and set and manage the priorities of a department
  • Excellent presentation of numerical outputs and summarising qualitative information effectively
  • Communication to different levels and backgrounds clearly
  • Good written communication skills
  • Experience of data science in practice would be highly desirable

IT Skills Required            

  • Advanced user of spreadsheets and presentation software (for example Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience of data management principles would be highly desirable
  • Experience of working with actuarial software for technical pricing and reserving would be highly desirable
